FootprintEdge methodology

Signals, scoring, and commercial timing.

FootprintEdge is built to make public business-location activity easier to understand without pretending that a single filing proves a business will definitely open.

01

Public signals

The current Texas engine uses public business, licensing, and permit information, including Texas sales-tax permit data, TABC Original/New application data, TABC issued-license corroboration, and municipal permit signals where supported.

02

Entity resolution

Records are normalized and matched into business-location identities so repeated or cross-source records do not automatically become separate opportunities.

03

Opening confidence

Opening confidence answers a narrow question: how strong is the evidence that this record represents a genuine new or changing business location?

04

Vendor opportunity score

Vendor scores answer a different question: how commercially relevant is this location for a specific vendor category at this point in the opening lifecycle?

Two scores, two jobs

Confidence is not the same thing as sales timing.

OPENING CONFIDENCE

Is the evidence credible?

Used to separate strong opening signals from weak or misleading records.

VENDOR SCORE

Is this worth pursuing now?

Uses category, signal age, corroboration, and vendor-specific timing to prioritize the opening differently for different vendor types.

Reliability policy

We would rather miss urgency than manufacture it.

A location is not marked disappeared after one missing refresh. FootprintEdge requires two consecutive fully healthy source refreshes before recording a disappearance event. This is designed to reduce false changes caused by unstable public feeds.

Important limitation

A signal is not a guarantee.

Public filings can change, expire, be delayed, be amended, or represent plans that never reach opening day. FootprintEdge should be used as commercial intelligence for prioritizing research and outreach—not as a guarantee of opening date, project completion, or purchase.
